Road Marking
Bolten’s Road marking glass beads are used to guide road users in the dark due to the presence of glass beads on its surface reflecting the lights of cars, motorcycles and bicycles. The glass spheres (retro)reflect the headlights of the vehicle to the driver, acting like a mirror.
In order to ensure a high level of visibility in all weather conditions, Bolten has developed different glass bead ranges suitable for each type of application. Beads for horizontal road marking can be either dropped on the product when it is applied in situ - "Drop-on"; and/or pre-mixed with the product during the manufacturing stage in the factory – "Premix".
Visibility by day as well as during the night in various weather conditions, anti-skid performance, wear resistance and durability are essential characteristics of good road markings. Bolten produces glass beads for all kinds of road marking products such as solvent based- and waterborne paints, thermoplastics and 2 component systems.

INTERMIX
Bolten Beads manufactures Glass beads which are blended into paint andthermoplastics during the manufacturing stage. These beads are known as Intermix(also called Premix or In-Mix beads). These beads have high longevity due to theirthickness.As the road marking paint wears over time due to friction from tyres and weathers, theglass spheres that are embedded into the paint are exposed which ensures retro-reflectivity. This helps to increase the longevity of the paint as well as safety of motorists.Bolten Beads’ Intermix beads come in a wide range of sizes depending on the markingmaterial, thickness and required performance levels of the paint.

DROP ON
Several countries use horizontal road markings. To increase longevity and reflectivity of
these road marking paints, glass beads are added to the paint at the time of application.
These paints are known Drop-on beads. The spheres help to increase retro-reflectivity of
the paint during RR (rainy), RI (dry) and RW (wet) conditions.
BoltenBeads’ Drop-on beads come in a variety of types depending on the type of paint
systems used for road marking. These include:
1. SBP ECO – Solvent-Based Paints without aromatic solvent
2. SBP – Solvent Based Paints with aromatic Solvent
3. WBP – Water Borne Paints
4. TRM – Use for Thermoplastics
5. BCP – Use for 2 and 3 components, cold plastics and reactive paints
All our components and beads are CE European Certified as per standard EN1243 and
also follow global standards for quality and safety of products. The grades mentioned
here are also available in Anti-skid variants (SRT).
Bolten Beads’ Drop-on Beads are classified into 3 different types:
1. Type 1 – Drop-on beads based on recycled material
2. Type 2 – Drop-on beads made from recycled glasses and direct melt glass beads
which have higher performance levels than Type 1
3. Type 3 – Drop-on beads made from direct melt glass beads which have the
highest performance levels.
